What is AI real­ly and what is it not? HumaNN makes it tan­gi­ble: peo­ple step into the role of neu­rons, pass­ing on val­ues, weigh­ing and pro­cess­ing them, with­out ever see­ing the full pic­ture. Togeth­er, they attempt to recog­nise a hand­writ­ten dig­it: pix­el by pix­el, step by step. No think­ing, no mag­ic, no mys­te­ri­ous intel­li­gence: just math­e­mat­ics. A col­lec­tive the­atre exper­i­ment between art and sci­ence com­mu­ni­ca­tion, that pulls back the cur­tain on algo­rith­mic sys­tems and replaces won­der with under­stand­ing.
