„The death of Empedocles“ by Peter Trabner at Sommermomente 2020
After the favourable performances of the German actor Peter Trabner on the festival BILDSTÖRUNG in 2018, Trabner rehearsed with the sicilian olivetree, his only friend and the representer of the whole nature, over and over again.
At Sommermomente 2020, an event series at the Schlosspark in Detmold, the audience had the chance to see the more important than ever Empedokles live on stage again. The Legend says he threw himself in the Ätna, rised as a silvery ash cloud and dispersed all over the globe at all times. For this reason he is everywhere and everything contains a bit of him like the plastic in our oceans or the emissions in the air we breathe. In the summer of 1797 Friedrich Hölderlin, a german poet, tired to transform the legend into a play but failed terrifically. The play is deemed to be unplayable and to be the first environmental drama, but Trabner successfully performed it for the pleasure of the audience.
