La Veronal [ES]

Marcos Morau

«Sonoma»

Site-specific adaptation

Nine dancers send the audience on a mystical journey. Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau and his company La Veronal create fascinating, large-scale stage works full of surreal images and fantastic beauty. In Sonoma, Marcos Morau sends the audience into a dream world with hypnotic force and precise, fast-paced dance. Dance is masterfully combined with elements of architecture and art, with text and music. To the sounds of Debussy and Wagner, the human meets the extraordinary. In a wondrous microcosm inspired by the traditional funeral processions and religious processions of a bygone Spain, the dancers attempt to cast off the shackles of the familiar, transcend boundaries, and rely solely on their instincts.
La Veronal is more than just a dance company, it’s a true state of mind dedicated to art and creativity.
Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau choreographs internationally for dance companies and has been honoured with numerous dance awards, including the National Dance Award (Spain). He is ‘tanz’ magazine’s Choreographer of the Year 2023 and has been an artist in residence at the Staatsballet Berlin since the 2023/24 season.
