From 18 to 20 August 2025, the German-Irish circus company Hippana.Maleta will be in residence at Hangar21. Following the performance of ‘Runners’ at BILDSTÖRUNG 2024, they will continue to develop their new piece ‘Inside Juggling’ at Hangar21. The residency is supported by the ‘Tiny Adaptions’ programme of the NRW Landesbüro Freie Darstellende Künste e.V. (LFDK) with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. At the end of the residency, Hippana.Maleta will present ‘Inside Juggling’ as a showcase at 8 p.m. at Hangar21, Charles-Lindbergh-Ring 10 in Detmold. Admission is free.
A show like a camera movement: fast-paced, funny and virtuosic. With clubs, selfie sticks and live projections, Liza van Brakel twists the audience’s perception. She transports the audience into a world of colourful images and visual manipulations, full of unexpected moments and choreographic sophistication. ‘Inside Juggling’ explores the relationship between humans and their media image, between authenticity, staging and self-optimisation. The performer juggles humorously and entertainingly between choreography, stage and her own image, presenting on the one hand the price of restless adventurousness and on the other the poetry of contradictory dreams.
Alex Allison and Jonas Schiffauer founded Hippana.Maleta in 2018 and have been researching a circus language that combines juggling with object manipulation ever since. Together, they share a vision of combining circus, poetry and performance. Hippana.Maleta tours Europe with its productions. The current production is the first collaboration with Dutch juggler Liza van Brakel.
