1991 the streettheatrefestival “BILDSTÖRUNG”(German for “interference”) electrified people in Detmold and interfered with Detmolds cityscape for the first time. Since 1992 the festival is being held in a bi-annual rhythm.
After the previous festival in 2022 the KulturTeam again challenges itself to create a festival for art in public space that covers and shows as much of the genres colours, facets and forms of expression as possible.
We are looking forward to the weekend of 17th May – 19th May 2024 with great artists, theatreproductions, performances, installations and an awesome audience, that is known to be curious and open for productions, that critically deal with topics around the individual and society.

Hangar 21 in Detmold
The “Hangar 21” is a former helicopter hangar of the British army which was modified in year 2000 to a regional Expo project with financial support of the country NRW to an museum for artistic kites.
Today the KulturTeam of Detmold uses the hall as a production place for international street theatre productions. In connection with the streettheatrefestival “Bildstörung”, the Hangar 21 is available for developing, interdisciplinary art forms. The premises of the hangar provide a unique opportunity for large format productions (main hall with approximately 3000 m² combined with smaller scale workshoprooms and exterior areas) to be artistically developed and rehearsed.
By the settlement of several partner institutions under one roof direct cooperation is possible.
Streettheatre compagnies will work out their performances and installations of different formats and present them at the streettheatrefestival.
